What is a Utility Connection Company?

To help you move into your new home, Frontdoor has partnered with MyConnect to assist you with your utility connections. The article below from MyConnect explains more…
There’s plenty to worry about when moving into a new home, but one that can easily be ticked off is ensuring the lights are on the first time you walk through the front door.
Enter utility connection companies, businesses that thrive on making the process seamless, easy to understand and help you save time (which isn’t always the case). So what do utility companies do for renters and movers as a whole?
At MyConnect, we consider ourselves the best of the best, so what better way to explain what a utility connection company is than a utility connection company itself? With introductions out of the way, let’s dive into anything and everything about utility connection.
What is a Utility Connection Company?
Typically when moving into a new rental property, you’ll need to arrange connections for your electricity, gas, internet, pay TV and more (if there isn’t a set box listed on the tenancy agreement, in which utilities are provided by the property owner).
Rental application forms provided by real estate companies will offer an opt-in to connect your utilities through a third-party connection company (that’s us!), who will contact you to arrange whichever connections or disconnections you need. If you have not opted into the service through real estate, you can contact the utility connection service and connect online or by phone call to arrange connections yourself.
Utility connection companies are free to use, with tenants only needing to pay the pricing of whichever energy provider they decide to connect with.
MyConnect is also a 100% independently owned Australian company, with no direct owner affiliation with service providers, meaning we’ll lay out the plans available and who you choose is your call!
How Are Utility Connection Services Free?
It almost sounds too good to be true that a service involving utilities is free of charge to use, but we assure you it costs nothing to use the free service!
By connecting with MyConnect, the only fees you’ll pay will be the ones made with your selected utility provider, which will be listed in the energy plan that is agreed upon.
So how do utility connection companies make money? In most cases, utility connection companies receive a fee for every connection made with their affiliated partners (i.e. retailers). This does not affect the price you pay to them and you are free to choose the supplier that best suits your needs.
MyConnect proudly partners with the energy retailers and electricity providers seen below.
Is Using A Connection Service Worth It?
Yes! Okay, we may be a little bit biased in this part…
In all seriousness, utility connection services are a great way to ensure your lights are switched on when you walk in the door of your new home. On top of that, they’re free to use so there’s no monetary risk in going through a connection company. With a simple phone call or a couple of clicks of a button online, you can arrange for an electricity connection just like that.
MyConnect can also arrange same-day connections and new connections for the weekend from Victoria (VIC) to New South Wales (NSW), Queensland (QLD) to South Australia (SA) and everything in between, so you can connect even at the latest notice.
We are also proudly ranked the #1 Utility Connection Service by Aussie Movers, with over 1000 Google reviews with a 4.8-star rating, so the service speaks for itself!
